Neighborhood Choir Program
The Children's Chorus has historically been an audition-only choir. Recently, CCGD added a community engagement component called the Neighborhood Choir Program (NCP). NCP is free to participants and is a partnership between CCGD and school music programs. NCP brings music education to underserved classrooms and develops talent in the community. Singers that complete the program receive training that enables them to have a competitive audition for the downtown choir.
NCP rehearsals are during the school day. NCP performances include one concert with the downtown choirs at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center and in-school performances though out the year.
In 2009 CCGD established a hybrid program sponsored by St. Monica Parish called the Northwest Dallas Choir. Students from St. Monica Parish and the community were invited to audition in the spring for entry into the choir for the 2009-2010 school year. Rehearsals are after-school.
NCP participants perform with the six downtown choirs in February or March and have multiple performances in their schools.
The current NCP choirs are:
2 choirs - West Dallas Community School 4th - 6th grade singers.
1 choir - St. Mary of Carmel 3rd - 4th grade singers.
1 choir - Northwest Dallas Choir 4th - 8th grade singers or the northwest Dallas community.
