Song and Story

Be transported on this magical evening by the
Children’s and Youth Choruses of Greater Dallas

March 17, 2008 (Dallas, Texas) — On Tuesday, May 6, 2008, the five choruses of the Children’s Chorus of Greater Dallas will present “Song and Story,” an evening of stories told both in song and by Toni Simmons of the Tejas Story-telling Association.  The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Meyerson Symphony Center, 2301 Flora Street, Dallas. Concert tickets range from $7.50 to $30; call 972-907-1455 or go to www.childrenschorus.com to order.

Through the ages, stories have moved us and delighted us most when they are sung. Artistic Director Cynthia Nott has selected a variety of narrative songs: funny and touching, full of love, longing, and laughter. One of the pieces, Verdi’s “Va, Pensiero”, is even the center of a legend that the song excited a crowd in Milan, then under Austrian rule, to nationalistic fervor out of sympathy with the slaves’ lament. You will hear why that audience was so moved when you join these singers and storytellers for an evening of imaginative delight.
